Meet Ellen

Born and raised in upstate New York, Ellen graduated Magna Cum Laude from the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor’s of Science in 1981. She moved to Houston later that year and enrolled in the University Of Houston School Of Law, graduating in May 1985. She was licensed by the State Bar of Texas in November 1985 and has practiced family law since that time.

After thirteen years in private practice, in January 1999 she was appointed as the Associate Judge of the 311th District Court by Judge Doug Warne. She remained the Associate Judge in that court until Judge Warne’s retirement in December 2010. In January 2011, Ellen was appointed the Associate Judge of the 312th District Court by Judge David Farr. She retired in March 2012 and began a mediation and arbitration practice in Houston.

Ellen is married to Arthur E. Shelton, III and has two children. She is a former member of the Board of Trustees for St. Mark’s Episcopal School and the Board of Directors of St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities.
